“Changing a child’s toy means nothing when the buyer’s actions never change”

Recently, people have been in an uproar about a new Barbie that is set to hit the market….maybe.  I find NOTHING offensive about the doll.  It is merely a reflection of the times.  And isn’t that what Barbie has always done…….given us a mirror unto our society? Black people are banning together in protest of a doll calling it offensive….claiming that it will poorly influence little girls…….stating that it puts a dim light on the image of the black woman.
UMMMMMMMMMM…..have these same people STOPPED watching movies…..tuning into TV shows……removed themselves from the internet? We have NO PROBLEM ooohing and awing and women dressed just like the Barbie doll.  Just a few days ago, LisaRaye McCoy posted a picture of herself in an outfit very similar to that of the doll and MULTIPLE women commented……”girl that is hot”  “I gotta get me one of those.”  NOT ONE COMMENT was in protest to how she looked….NOR did anyone proclaim that Ms. McCoy would negatively affect girls.
Why is it that Nicki Minaj, Lil Kim, Trina, Beyonce, etc can sell out shows and consistently top the charts wearing the same and/or LESS and NO ONE screams that little black girls will be lead astray by the image that they portray?  A doll’s life is left to the imagination of the child.  The outfit will be changed and modified a million times over by the time that child will tire of it.  BUT we would rather waste our energy on protesting a damn child’s TOY.
Millions of women have played with Babies (rather authentic or carbon copies) and NOT ONE has ever said that they framed their life after the piece of plastic and horse hair.  Who influences little girls are the WOMEN that they are surrounded by each and every day!!!!! Rather it is a family member….a friend…..a celebrity that they idolize or their reflection in the mirror.  Barbie isn’t talking to them….singing to them……living a reality that they are envious of.  NO NO NO NO! So is it TRULY worth getting all up in arms about a TOY?! Especially since we have NO problem teaching our children by example that being half naked and materialistic is the in thing.  That for a woman to get ahead or to simple be successful a brain isn’t needed….just a nice set of boobs and a great butt.  No longer are a woman’s intellectual assets the forefront….it is how well she can twerk it and how dumb she can sound on a track.  As long as the CD cover is phenomenal….talent and/or education are a non-factor.  Think I am reaching? Then explain to me why Nicki Minaj has a career.  Tell me why the FLOTUS is more talk about in regards to her body and wardrobe rather than the fact that she is a COLLEGE GRADUATE.
Don’t want a cleavage bearing; double LV carrying, two chain wearing, blonde haired Barbie on the shelves? Change what toy makers have to draw from.  Cover your boobs……reduce the weave……STOP searching for sugar daddies….QUIT putting a price tag on your own worth……..EXIT from the behavior of spending the rent money on designer fashions just so that you can make a group of girl jealous at the club for ONE NIGHT.
